Challenge or Task

Details of Award
Voki with Recorded Voice
John
Sophia
A set task was to decide on three goals for semester one and to formulate your strategies to achieve these goals. The challenge was to experiment and produce a voki with your own recorded voice. John and Sophia demonstrated enthusiasm and initiative to complete this task on the same day as the task was given. Well done and keep up the good work.
Daily Life as a Prisoner on a Hulk
Folakemi
Sophia
Najma
Shona
I am looking for students who do their best and produce quality work. These students in particular produced some quality responses to this task. Visit the History page and follow the links to read their responses. If you do this you may also more clearly understand what I mean by 'high expectations' when I set you any tasks to complete.
Student Support
Alex
Although NINE students were informed that they need to attend Student Support Sessions to complete outstanding work, only one student attended and receives acknowledgement that he was the only prepared to stay back after school to get help and get up to date. At least eight members of the class need to follow Alex's example if they want to do well in 2010.
Settlement Theory Essay
Yoana
Shaeley
Shona
Kyam
Although there was a number of pleasing efforts, I was particularly impressed by these essays. Evidence of additional research, well developed arguments, proposal of a theory, accurate observations and good essay writing were demonstrated.
Tall Ships Excursion
Olivia
Shaeley
Marc
Andrew
The majority of the class seemed to enjoy this excursion and participated in the sailing of the Enterprize. However, these four members of the class in particular (in my opinion) were especially enthusiastic and actively participated in the various sailing tasks on the ship.
Challenge No 2 - Regifting Robin
Najma
First person to satisfactorily explain to me how this "con" works on people who don't think!
Aboringinal Design on Folio
Yoana
Folakemi
Aye
A number of students put care, thought and effort into their folder and presentation of work but these three students in particular excelled. Their folder designs were outstanding and very creative. I would like to retain them for display to inspire other students to do as well!
Illustrated Poem or Aboriginal Dreamtime story
Folakemi
Aye
Folakemi's poem is one of the best pieces of work I have ever received from a student. It was shown at a full staff meeting and highlighted outstanding use of ICT (PhotoStory) to give emmotion and impact in the delivery of the poem. A truely outstanding piece of work from any Year 9 student. Aye also excelled with her dreamtime story because of the enormous time and effort she put into drawing each of the images which make up the story. It is clear from her work that she is a talented drawer and she used her strengths to produce an excellent piece of work.
Me - The Teacher
Alex
Michael
Marc
In my opinion, these three students in particular made a concerted effort to communicate their lessons to the class and demonstrated some competent skills in explaining their areas of study and refining their handouts to teach the class. They were short and to the point but effective!
Packaging & Marketing of a Product
Selman & John
They attacked this task with purpose and developed an excellent prototype very quickly which clearly showed an understanding and insight into their intended market segment. A very professional prototype with a marketable name and image.
9M2 AWARDS 2010
It has been my practice to give class/subject awards at the end of a year. These awards are given with absolute fairness and integrity but they are MY opinion and apologies to anyone who is disappointed that I did not recognise you. Traditionally, I give a maximum of 7 awards, so it is inevitable that only 7 students (maximum) can gain recognition. Be proud of your achievements without my affirmation!!!
Most Improved
Mai
Still sometimes late, but I know that she will complete all necessary tasks and I have been impressed by the continual improvement in attitude and quality of work that she has displayed during this year. I am confident that she is on track to do well in her future studies if she sustains this trend. Congratulations!
Biggest Surprise Packet
Kyam
A quiet achiever who deservedly has been recognised as a Year 10 School Captain in 2011. After a "prickly" start to the year I have been delighted by her determination, desire to improve, good learning habits and consistent effort. A big pat on the back Kyam! They say that good things come in little packages!
Excellence & A Model of Consistency
Yoana
Everything she does, she does well. No other student in the class has been able to produce the same high quality work as consistently during the year. This is not luck, but consistent effort and application. Even her bookwork in class is excellent!
Best Oral Contributor
Shaeley
She is never shy to express an opinion and contribute to a discussion. Classes are boring if students do not actively participate in oral class activities so I am most thankful for Shaeley's confidence in expressing herself so frequently. It is refreshing to hear an honest and sometimes alternative opinion from someone thinking and showing engagement in the lesson.
Best Allrounder
John
I do not believe anyone in the class could think of one bad thing to say about John. He is a model student who does not "big-note" himself. He consistently completes work of a high standard, participates in various extra curricular activities, does not make excuses but takes responsibility for his own learning, responds to advice on how to improve his work, is keen to learn and is always respectful of everyone. He has been a pleasure to teach and I am sure that he will be an excellent Yr10 School Captain in 2011.
Excellence at Creativity and Risk Taking
Aye
She has blossomed since Term 2 and I am thrilled to see some of the high quality work that she completes. I admire students who are willing to experiment and attempt a wide range of projects using different approaches and media. No one in the class has done better when you admire her aboriginal folder, hand drawn dreamtime story, Pristine detergent box, video on depression, the song on depression that she wrote etc etc Her written work is also incredibly and consistently well done.
Outstanding Academic Achievement
Folakemi
She is also an allrounder who has excelled this year. However, this award specifically recognises her Terra Nullius Photostory project. This single piece of work was the most outstanding work I received from any student in this school for the whole year (including VCE students!) It showed maturity, evoked a deep emotional impact, and was an awesome project to receive from any student. I will remember this piece of work as one of the best 10 I have received from a student during more than 30 years of teaching in all schools that I have taught at. This includes any student at any year level!! Thank you Folakemi.

9M1 AWARDS 2010
It has been my practice to give class/subject awards at the end of a year. These awards are given with absolute fairness and integrity but they are MY opinion and apologies to anyone who is disappointed that I did not recognise you. Traditionally, I give a maximum of 7 awards, so it is inevitable that only 7 students (maximum) can gain recognition. Unfortunately due to excessive absences by students in this class I am unable to give the full range of awards in 2010.
Most Consistent Worker
Shaun
He is the only member of this class who has consistently maintained his focus, ignored disruptions, and completed most of the set work. The next challenge is to increase the depth and quality of this work. Congratulations on being recognised on Awards Night.
Best Allrounder
April
As soon as she decided that she could do the work, and made an effort to complete tasks, she has done really well in this class and some of the work she has completed has been as good or better than that produced by some members of the SEAL class. During the year I would have possibly given her about 8 to 10 awards. Keep up the good work April!
Most Improved
Evangelia
Semester 1 was forgettable but Evangelia "came home with a wet sail". Her attendance improved and she made a commendable effort to complete all assessment tasks. I nominated her for Student of the Week (which she won) and her Chernobyl poster (with Marc) was absolutely excellent. Congratulations!
Best Quality Work
Danielle
She is a very capable student when she wants to be and during this year has managed to produce some very good work.
Best Oral Contributor
Michael
He has consistently shown that he is willing to answer questions and contribute his views and ideas during discussions. I have appreciated his input.
